    Xenia,
Thanks for the support on PP. I really do appreciate it.

    You’re welcome.

I think your last thread really gets to the core of what all of us have been discussing on PP for five years and which is the reason I ultimately left the Protestant world. On the one hand, there’s post after post complaining about preachers, doctrines, moral failures, lack of personal discipline, spiritual dryness, etc. yet at the same time people will insist that attempts at personal holiness is salvation by works. And you are right- the majority of the words of Jesus and St. Paul are inverted to mean the opposite of what common sense tells us they mean. “Be ye holy” now means “Don’t even try to be holy.” So much for the Sola Scripturists’ claim that we should have confidence in the plain meaning of Scripture. Nope. In this scheme, everything means the opposite of what the plain meaning tells us.

Thanks for the good observations. There are a bunch of ways of attacking the same basic issue(s). I don’t think the CCites can recognize the weakness in what they are doing and I use their same techniques when I deal with them.

It’s got to be hard for Michael to complain about CC kicking out Calvinists (who CC held to be contentious) and kicking me out (who he held to be contentious). In my experience Calvinists are the most contentious of all the “Christian” groups out there.

Also, his hero worship for Calvin is interesting – more devotion to Calvin than most Orthodox have to the actual church saints.
